Anne Sawyer is a Minnesota State Arts Board Roster Artist. She has worked as a puppeteer, arts educator, and stilt walker in the Twin Cities since 1996. She has been a May Day Parade Staff Artist and Main Stage Performer for In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre and created many large puppets, props, and costumes. She has also worked with Open Eye Figure Theatre, the Ordway, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Chicks on Sticks, Artstart, and the Minnesota Zoo.
She has written and illustrated two children’s books, Nalah and the Pink Tiger, (2012) and Nalah Goes to Mad Mouse City (2014). She is touring the puppet show versions of both books around the state, performing in both English and Spanish.
Anne has also made commissioned pieces for the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (Shadows of the Floating World) and for MacPhail Center for Music (Petrushka). She has created many puppet shows with support from the Minnesota State Arts Board, the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, Puppeteers of America, and the Jim Henson Foundation.
